Check your bank account, kids: Come October, the
highest bidder might be able to sleep with Cher. Well, in
her actual bed, as it's one of 700 items from her Malibu
home that are being auctioned off starting Oct. 3. The massive
sale includes Moroccan furniture, gothic artwork and jewelry,
a 2003 Hummer and tons more. But the Holy Grail of Cherness
will be 200 pieces from her extensive wardrobe and costume
collection, including outfits featured on The Sonny & Cher
Comedy Hour and the original Mackie-designed gown she wore
to the Oscars!
Blur/Gorillaz main man Damon Albarn has formed a new band
called the Good The Bad & The Queen. We have no idea
what that name means, but Albarn is said to have recruited
Clash bassist Paul Simonon, along with ex-Verve guitarist
and part-time Blur member Simon Tong. Look for their debut
single in October.
Lead Scissor Sister, singer Jake Shears, said recently
he contemplated suicide after the band's last tour ended.
He said the "comedown" after the whirlwind huge
success of their debut was "like shooting a torpedo
into the ground.” He credits his boyfriend for keeping
him grounded and helping him regain his zest for life.
Thank goodness, Jake! Look for the new SS CD next month.
Joan Jett may be 47 now, but that doesn't mean the original
riot grrrl has outgrown her rebel, punk rock spirit. "I
never subscribed to the idea that punk rock means you have
to play fast and scream," Jett told Newsday. "To
me, it means being a rebel, being an underdog, being outside
and doing it yourself." After appearing on the Warped
Tour, Jett starts her own headlining tour in October with
the Eagles of Death Metal as her opening act. Bitchin'!
In Stupid Fun Fact News, original Village People cop (and
most recently, a felon) Victor Willis used to be married
to Phylicia Rashad from The Cosby Show (who is the sister
of Debbie Allen from Fame).
Those of us who were hoping that Pink would finally get
cast in the long-overdue Janis Joplin biopic are bumming
out. Director Penelope Spheeris revealed that Zooey Deschanel
(who?) and not Pink, is about to sign up to star in the
flick.
A few issues ago we reported that Goldfrapp would be handling
the theme music to the new James Bond movie, but it turns
out that Audioslave's Chris Cornell is actually taking
the reigns on the theme track, entitled “You Know
My Name.” But you can hear a remix of Goldfrapp's “Strict
Machine” on the Miami Vice soundtrack.
Finally, watch for Aersosmith's Steven Tyler to hit the
boob-tube this fall on CBS' Two and a Half Men playing
a rockin', noisy neighbor … naturally!
