Ken on the Scene

Summer is marching on in Los Angeles, and some of the best places to spend these summer months are found in good ol’ Silver Lake, where hunky and hairy calendar models, scruffy go-go boys with a penchant for being naughty and drag queens in nun habits often run rampant.

Those hunky models were recently found at the Eagle, where Hot House Entertainment presented The South of Market Bare Chest Calendar Men. The hirsute studs showed up for the Bare Chest Benefit, which benefited the AIDS Emergency Fund and Positive Resource Center with an evening of frisky fun. There were giveaways galore (free Hot House porn! free calendars!), as well as several good-looking guys dropping trou for the sake of charity. Talk about good vibrations!

The following week I made it over to the Faultline for my favorite monthly club, Blender, where DJ RawBurt spun several hot mash-ups in honor of the night’s theme, underwear. Skivvies designer Andrew Christian was on hand to judge a wet undies contest (check out those pics!), while Blender’s roster of scruffy go-go boys kept the energy up—among other things!—with their salacious moves. In the coming weeks, I’ll be spotlighting a couple of these hot boys, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that.

I think I’ll let Kevin tell you about our adventures at the recent Hard Heroes event at MJ’s, so until next time, stay cool and sexy. And don’t forget to write, dammit!

Kevin on the Scene

Last Sunday I met up with Ken at MJ’s for the fourth annual Hard Heroes event, Los Angeles' only Lycra/latex/leather/superhero/super villain/fetish party presented by the Los Angeles chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Hard Heroes not only raises awareness of the LGBT artists and authors in the comic book industry, it also raises money for Being Alive, the non-profit organization operated by and for people living with HIV/AIDS.

At the event, Ken and I had the pleasure of meeting featured artist/art director Aman Chaudhary, who interviewed both of us for his video blog, which can be viewed at www.aman-about-town.blogspot.com.

Several gay comics were on sale, and everyone’s favorite drag diva Jackie Beat was on-hand to rouse the crowd with her usual super-bitchy antics. There were also quite a few fags dressed up like their favorite superheroes and/or super villains, including Green Lantern, Captain America, Elasti-Girl & Mr. Incredible and even Power Girl—though, admittedly, she sported a little more, um, chest hair than usual. Mr. Fantastic was present as well, but his wife, the Invisible Woman was absent (or was she?). Nevertheless, Mr. Fantastic managed to live up to his name by proving he was both a grower and a shower. I don’t know about you folks, but I think that’s just, well, super!

OK, that’s it for this time around. Be sure to tune in next week—same danger time, same danger channel!
