Our guide to dining before, during, and after Sunset Junction.
By Joseph S. Amster and David Penne
Whether you’re planning to attend Sunset Junction
in the morning, afternoon, or evening (or all of the above),
you’re going to need to eat. Why fill up on the seemingly
endless offerings of egg rolls, roasted corn, tacos, and
chow mein when Silver Lake has so many great restaurants
to offer? Some are located within the grounds of Sunset
Junction, while others are just a short distance away.
We’ve scoured Silver Lake to come up with a list
of eateries to satisfy even the fussiest eater, so eat,
drink, be merry, and enjoy Sunset Junction.
Casita del Campo
1920 Hyperion Ave.
(323) 662-4255
This venerable Mexican food restaurant has been in business
for over 40 years, and is well known for their generous
portions and refreshing margaritas. Located fairly close
to the festival, Casita offers lots of free parking,
and is a great spot for a post-Junction dinner.
The Cheese Store
of Silver Lake
3926-28 W. Sunset Blvd.
(323) 644-7511
Arguably the best cheese shop in L.A., they feature endless
varieties of fromage from around the world. This is a great
place to pick up some cheese, bread, and wine, sit on their
patio, and people watch.
Comfort Café
2520 Hyperion Ave.
This is a good place for a healthy breakfast on Saturday,
but don’t go on Sunday—they’re closed.
Located next to Body Builders Gym, their dishes are loaded
with lots of protein.
Good Microbrew & Grill
3725 W. Sunset Blvd.
(323) 660-3645
What better way to cool off from a hot day at the Junction
than with a nice, cold beer? Located within the festival
grounds, this convenient spot has just what you’ll
need to beat the heat.
Giannino
2630 Hyperion Ave.
(323) 664-7979
Classic Italian cuisine and a homey, romantic atmosphere
keep the customers coming back to this neighborhood favorite.
If you like osso bucco or any other Italian favorites,
this is the place for you.
Gingergrass
2396 Glendale Blvd.
(323) 644-1600
This new Vietnamese restaurant has become a neighborhood
favorite, so show up early or be prepared to wait. Low
prices get them in, but great cuisine keeps them coming
back.
Leela Thai
1737 Silver Lake Blvd.
(323) 660-6622
Another popular neighborhood spot, the prices are incredibly
low on their extensive menu. See if they’ll tell
you what their secret spice is in their seafood dishes.
Cash only.
Malo Restaurant
4326 W. Sunset Blvd.
(323) 664-1011
An eclectic, tasty mix of Mexican tapas. Dip warm chips
into burnt habanero crema salsa while sipping tequila sunrises
on the lovely patio.
Pazzo Gelato
3827 W. Sunset Blvd.
(323) 662-1410
Located within Sunset Junction, you can cool off with a
watermelon mojito sorbet or a cappuccino gelato at this
authentic Italian gelateria
Tantra
3705 W. Sunset
(323) 663-8268
Also within the festival grounds, if you want something
exotic, this is the place for great Indian cuisine. It’s
worth it for the décor alone, but do stay for the
food.
Zen Sushi
2609 Hyperion Ave.
(323) 665-2929
What’s more refreshing than sushi and a big bottle
of Japanese beer? They also have two bars and feature an
eclectic array of local entertainment.
