Tell me where Brian Schulze hails from.

I’m originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, a small town near Amish country. My family is country and they have a burn pile in the back yard, not a trash bin. I grew up there with big ambitions. I didn’t want to live in a small town my whole life.

And do those big ambitions involve becoming an actor?

Yes, acting and dancing. I studied in college before moving here, and I’ve studied with private teachers and at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.

What are some of your credits so far?

I’ve done well for being in L.A. for just a year. I’ve been on The Ghost Whisperer with Jennifer Love Hewitt. I was in The Comebacks with Matthew Lawrence. I did a workshop for a Broadway musical called Cheer: the Musical, which was an amazing experience. I’m up for a part in a big movie. If I get it, I’ll be leaving for two months to shoot it in Orlando, Florida.

Does your gymnastics background affect the roles you audition for?

Yes, it does. When I was still at home, I knew I needed an edge. At college I decided to learn cheerleading and gymnastics because you have to in shape and in touch with your own body.

How long have you been involved in gymnastics?

I started tumbling about eight years ago as a hobby that turned into an obsession.

Do you teach gymnastics?

I do sometimes, and I judge competitions. I also work with kids on tumbling and cheerleading.

You’re also a trainer at Gold's Gym. What advice do you give to clients?

I’m very motivated and tell them, “You can always get what you want in my small steps. Nothing happens overnight. You have to stay positive and focused and motivated. Follow your dreams and stick to it.”

What are your long-term goals?

I want to be a successful actor and live comfortably. I don’t need to be rich and famous.

How do you find the dating scene in L.A.?

I don’t have time for it right now. I’m single and just hang around my friends. I don’t date much. That’s trouble. (Laughs)

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I’m very goal oriented so I’m going to be successful. I’ll hopefully be on a TV series, maybe have starred in a movie already. I want to be a working actor.
